Kissing From Bible Perspective

So when it comes to the idea of Christian kissing, as in sharing more than a holy kiss in a greeting (2 Corinthians 13:12), should we save our first kiss for marriage? Can we kiss before we tie the knot, and how far is too far before marriage?

What really this question boils down to intentions of the heart and mind during the act of kissing. As stated in Ephesians 5:3, we should not allow even a hint of sexual immorality among God’s people.

The Bible makes it clear to avoid having sex before marriage (1 Corinthians 6:18), but as for kissing and smooching which can easily lead to sex before marriage what do you think? In case you are still asking and looking for biblical reasons to engage in kissing and smooching before marriage, I will ask, what are your intentions REALLY?

I often ask people, when you kiss, do you lift your hands in worship or put it in your pockets or behind you? I don’t think so, kissing is a pre-sex act. You can’t touch when you kiss… Do you get it? Even if you don’t touch, if it is someone you are attracted to, there is no way you would not start to imagine and think lustful thoughts.

However, the ultimate decision is yours. Here are Bible verses with the word kiss for your consideration.

Matthew 5:28 ESV

But I say to you that everyone who looks at a woman with lustful intent has already committed adultery with her in his heart.

But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh.

Romans 14:1-23 ESV

As for the one who is weak in faith, welcome him, but not to quarrel over opinions. One person believes he may eat anything, while the weak person eats only vegetables. Let not the one who eats despise the one who abstains, and let not the one who abstains pass judgment on the one who eats, for God has welcomed him. Who are you to pass judgment on the servant of another? It is before his own master that he stands or falls. And he will be upheld, for the Lord is able to make him stand. One person esteems one day as better than another, while another esteems all days alike. Each one should be fully convinced in his own mind. ...

1 Corinthians 13:1-10 ESV

If I speak in the tongues of men and of angels, but have not love, I am a noisy gong or a clanging cymbal. And if I have prophetic powers, and understand all mysteries and all knowledge, and if I have all faith, so as to remove mountains, but have not love, I am nothing. If I give away all I have, and if I deliver up my body to be burned, but have not love, I gain nothing. Love is patient and kind; love does not envy or boast; it is not arrogant or rude. It does not insist on its own way; it is not irritable or resentful; ...

Remember therefore from where you have fallen; repent, and do the works you did at first. If not, I will come to you and remove your lampstand from its place, unless you repent. Yet this you have: you hate the works of the Nicolaitans, which I also hate. He who has an ear, let him hear what the Spirit says to the churches. To the one who conquers I will grant to eat of the tree of life, which is in the paradise of God.’ ...

You are severed from Christ, you who would be justified by the law; you have fallen away from grace. For through the Spirit, by faith, we ourselves eagerly wait for the hope of righteousness. ...

Likewise the husband does not have authority over his own body, but the wife does. Blessed is the one who reads aloud the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear, and who keep what is written in it, for the time is near.
