It could well be an Onion story. According to various media reports, all university men in North Korea will now have to get the same hairstyle as their Supreme Leader Kim Jong Un. The middle-parted, sides-shaved haircut isn't the greatest thing in fashion right now but the Time Magazine reported that Pyongyang introduced the new law two weeks ago and is now rolling it out across the country.
Everyone in North Korea till now had to choose their hairstyles from a state-approved list. The magazine quoted a former Pyongyang resident now living in China as saying that the Kim Jong Un cut is unpopular because it apparently resembles the style of Chinese smugglers.
"Until the mid-2000s, we called it the 'Chinese smuggler haircut," the source told the Korea Times, quoted by Time.
