Lawyers for the kidnapper and rapist Ariel Castro called yesterday for an independent investigation into his death and accused officials of failing to acknowledge that he was a suicide risk.
Castro, who was sentenced to 1,000 years on top of a life term for abusing three young women for a decade and for the murder of his unborn child, was found dead in his Ohio prison cell on Tuesday night. Preliminary autopsy results showed that he had used a bedsheet to hang himself.
