A close friend of Ugbome told The Guardian that his abductors have demanded N100 million. He said they opened contacts on Sunday but that “since that day, they have not been in touch.”
Catholic Bishop of Sokoto Diocese, Rev. (Fr.) Hassan Kukah, has however, condemned Ozekhome’s kidnap, saying it is an aberration that an advocate of youth empowerment is now a victim of kidnap by youths.
Kukah, who described Ozekhome as a hard working man that did not deserve what has happened to him, regretted that coming at the dawn of the democracy and freedom he fought for, this is at worst, a second crucifixion for a great patriot”.
