Nigerian commercial airline, Arik Air, on Wednesday took delivery of Airbus 330-200 – a twin-engine aircraft; bringing the total number of its fleet to 24.
Arik’s Deputy Managing Director, Captain Ado Sanusi said the new aircraft will complement the long haul operation of the airline.
Arik intends to use the new-generation plane to service its bilateral designated routes such as the United States, China, UAE and Europe.
The aircraft which was christened “Joseph of the Holy family” will also help Arik upgrade its Lagos-Johannesburg route; replacing the existing B737-800 aircraft flying between the two cities.
Compared to the 36 premier Business class seats and 201 Economy class seats offered in the A340 aircraft, Arik said the new aircraft which offers 217 seat-capacity is configured with 30 premier business class seats and 187 Economy class seats.
“The premier Business Class product is carefully tailored to meet the discerning business class travellers needs. Travellers will have individual secluded booth areas that contain flat beds featuring inbuilt massage system complete with a hand held 3.5 inch LCD screen unit controlling seats and lightening options,” the airline explained.
The delivery of the aircraft marks the addition of three other aircrafts that would be added to the fleet before the end of the year.
Last month, Arik, signed a $297 million contract with Bombardier Aerospace to acquire three CRJ100 NextGen regional jets and four Q400 NextGen turboprops, as part of its fleet expansion.
