Super Eagles’ head coach, Stephen Keshi has been officially queried by the Nigeria Football Federation, (NFF), following his refusal to honour an official summons to Abuja. Keshi was expected to meet with the federation’s Technical committee over pressing issues as they affect the national team’s programmes.
Chairman of the NFF Media and Publicity Committee, Chief Emeka Inyama, told sportswriters in Abuja on Wednesday that Keshi was asked to come to Abuja, after taking delivery of his vehicles from Globacom in Lagos on Tuesday but information at NFF’s disposal said the former Mali and Togo national coach has gone to see the family on forced vacation in California, United States much to the consternation of the Glasshouse.
‘’Keshi was officially invited to come and face the technical committee with a view to addressing some salient issues as they affect the team, like his face off with skipper Joseph Yobo, Osaze Odemwingie, his technical report from the Nations Cup, his programmes for the confederation cup and the world cup qualifiers.
‘’But gentlemen, what we are seeing is that he deliberately refused to show up and the NFF his employers are viewing this seriously’’. Asked to divulge what fate awaits the nations cup winning coach, he shot back....’’he has a lot of explanation to make of course...I mean let’s be serious, this is a national business’’
Meanwhile, the first Vice President of NFF, Chief Mike Umeh, on Wednesday denied telling a national newspaper that the disengagement of Sylvanus Okpala as Assistant Coach of the Super
Eagles was not discussed by the NFF Board.
“I did not discuss with anyone the issue of Sylvanus Okpala. It is wrong for anyone to say I said the issue was not discussed at the level of Executive Committee,” Umeh said on Wednesday.
