Facebook Home could be getting a whole lot more impressive with the addition of a new mobile software unit. Facebook is continuing to beef up its mobile repertoire with the acquisition of Osmeta, a mobile software solutions startup, based on a new report.
TechCrunch reported on Thursday that it confirmed that the world's largest social network had acquired the Mountain View, Calif.-based company.
While it is known that Osmeta develops mobile software, the rest of what the startup does is still a mystery. Right now, Osmeta consists of a 19-person engineering team. According to its website, the team is "working on really, really interesting software technology," which is followed up by the note that Osmeta will reveal "more when the time is right."
Thus, TechCrunch's hints that this could be primarily a talent acquisition appear to be on point. Nevertheless, it still opens the door for speculation on what the team will be brought on for -- especially in the wake of Facebook's debut of its new Android user interface and family of apps, Home.
Financial terms of the deal have not been disclosed.
