About 198 athletes in Warri for African Youth Athletes Championship


Report reaching says about 198 athletes from allover African are already in Warri, the comedy City in Delta State for the maiden edition of (AYAC) African Youth Athletics Championship. They started arriving on Tuesdays  and the championship began on Wednesday. As at yesterday night the Warri became alive with lots of activities marking the debut of the Chapionship.

We learnt that the event, which is the first of its kind is powered by Delta State government and organised by Athletics Federation of Nigeria (AFN) in collaboration with Delta State Sports Commission. It will be a brief one though, because it will close on Sunday.

Nigeria has the highest number of athletes and officials with a total of 73 while Egypt has 21 just as Ethiopia and Kenya have 17 and 14 respectively for the event. Others are Benin Republic 10, Morocco 15, Botswana and Rwanda have four each, Zambia, Burkina Faso have two each, Namibia, Mozambique, Senegal, Ivory Coast, Angola, Cape Verde have three each. Also, Djibouti have eight as Sudan field five.
