Who Really Killed Comrade Olaitan Oyerinde?

It was drama galore at the House of Representatives Committee on Public Petitions forum investigating the murder of the late  Principal Private Secretary to the Edo State Governor, Comrade Adams Oshiomhole, Comrade  Olaitan Oyerinde, as various dramatis personae openly engaged in war of words.

Even the office of the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice, Mr Mohammed Adoke  openly told the Honourable Uzo Azubuike-led committee that his office was confused on how to go about the murder case, owing to the conflicting reports from the Department of State Security and Nigeria police.
This is coming just as Comrade Oshiomhole openly engaged in war of words with the police saying it was only trying to bungle the case, because it had enough evidence to nail the culprits and charge them to court.
According to him, the police was involved in the murder of Comrade Oyerinde, saying evidence in the police records showed that the suspects and the murder weapon that killed Oyerinde had been in police custody since April 24, 2012 prior to the death of his aide.

Comrade Oshiomhole added that the principal suspect in the murder case was in the custody of the police as of April 24 and that call log supposedly used to link David Ugbolor to the case had not been produced, despite claim by police that it was in their possession.

He, however, said that,”Almost a year after, they cannot produce it”, stressing that,”those responsible have prevailed on the police to help shield them from  prosecution.”

However, a Deputy Inspector General, Mr Peter Gana, who represented the Inspector General, stoutly kicked against the allegation leveled against the police by the governor, saying that the allegation was false, baseless and intended to mislead the member of the public.

The AGF, represented by a Deputy Director in the ministry, Mr O. T. Olatigbe told the committee that, “We need further investigation. We have two reports and both are convincing, but we don’t know who to believe.”

He however said that it would have been better if the two security agencies had harmonised their position, which would have made the prosecution of those arrested by the agencies easier.

But the chairman of the House committee however said “It is unfortunate. It is shameful and embarrassing that in a situation like this, the office if the Attorney General of the Federation is confused then the President of the country and everyone is looking up to you. It is sad to note that the office of the Attorney General is confused.”
