Kyle and the Paper Clip

I heard a story the other time that kind of renewed my faith in possibilities. I heard about a 26 years young man who had nothing but a paper-clip. He thought of what to do with his paper-clip. He had an incredible idea, which was to trade off his paper-clip for what he wanted – a house. Laughable right, but it is possible. Anyway, the young man’s name was Kyle. He actually got what he wanted after about 13 trades which lasted for about 12 months.

How did he do it? He created a blog with the picture of his paper-clip which he claimed was for trade for anyone who has something to give in return. To him, it was more of a game than a dream but he chose to risk it anyway. After awhile, he got someone who gave him a wooden fish pen for his paper-clip. He then traded the pen for a knob made by a Seattle-based potter. Afterward for a Coleman grill in Massachusetts and then traded for a generator in California.

It wasn’t long before Kyle got to trade his generator to a young man who offered him a vintage neon Budweiser sign. Now, he has a good knowledge of what people want, which mostly was things they are fond of. He now understands a very vital truth that everyone in this world has something they desired, either out of sentiment or some attachment.

He further got a snowmobile from Montreal radio host, which he traded for a trip to Yahk in British Columbia. At this point, the trade escalates; the media got involved, Kyle got a van and got it traded for a recording contract, then a year of rent. At one point he traded a day with musician Alice Cooper for a Kiss snow globe. A young collected of snow globes offered to give Kyle a movie role for his Kiss snow globe.

Here is the mind blowing tale, the town of Kipling, Saskatchewan, traded him the role, which Kipling citizens auditioned for later, for a house, complete with the world's largest red paperclip sculpture out front, at 503 Main Street. This was Kyle story, how he got a house with a paper-clip not worth a single door-knob in that house. While it sounds, like a very rare story, you can actually duplicate this story in your life. What are the variables, Kyle knew what he wanted (a house), what he has (a paper-clip) and how to get what he wanted (a trade). He didn’t sit back and mourn his pathetic situation, he made a move to change it. It is almost the end of the year, you can make vital changes that will make your 2013 a great year.
